THE NEWARK AIR MUSEUM COCKPIT-FEST WEEKEND-

 14/15th JUNE 2008

COCKPIT-FEST 2008

This is the annual gathering of members of the International Cockpit Club, and the many independent cockpit owners, who each year travel to NAM with their cockpits and / or aircraft interior parts, to display them to the public, to whom these items are rarely seen. This event is supported by FlyPast, the UK’s top selling aviation monthly. The cockpits are in various stages of restoration, from the newly acquired wreck, through ongoing projects, to fully restored cockpits. All of these types form the ethos of what Cockpit-Fest is about, the saving and conservation of our aviation heritage, it is not, nor ever will be a beauty parade of perfect cockpits. Part two of Cockpit-Fest is known as the “Interiors” and features anything that goes inside a aircraft, this can include flying clothing, survival equipment, flying helmets, instrument panels, control columns, gun turrets, ejector seats, etc. This became part of the event from day one but some collectors may still be unaware of this. Owners/Collectors of the above wishing to display at Cockpit-Fest 2008 should contact us with details.

The overall site offers many opportunities for display areas to show off this years gathering, which is expected to closely follow the pattern of 2007. It also allows the separation between exhibits and sales that we prefer. The now traditional evening social, with food, this year a Hor Roast, and beer remains in place, and offers cockpitters the opportunity of a social evening once all the days visitors have left. Many even feel that this is the highlight of the event, giving each quality time to share with like-minded people. For this reason I need to know how many people to expect.  Should any of you have issues you may wish to discuss with me, then please phone me up for a chat. My number remains 01522 560541, so if I need a reminder of something we discussed last year, or you have an idea that will make this year better, please call me.

It is hoped that existing, and new, cockpitters will once again take the opportunity of attending this annual gathering. It is also expected that we will all be seeing an interesting and varied selection of cockpits during the ninth Cockpit-Fest. Please note that there is no charge for you to exhibit at Cockpit-Fest. Likewise the sooner that you send your intention to attend information to me, the sooner it can be displayed on the net, and the better we sell our event to the rest of the world.

We have had the introduction of an official theme tune for the event, (Fanfare for the Cockpit Man), and the introduction of an official event mascot. The mascot will be continue to perform official duties, such as be available to be photographed with the cockpits, perform an inspectional tour of the exhibits at each years event, and be willing to pose in the official group photograph (which may now happen on the Saturday, so everybody is included)..

AEROBOOT – Aviation & Avionics Sale

During this weekend we open a special area for an aviation and avionics sale, this tends to focus on the selling of aviation books, videos, photos, prints, uniforms and parts. Pitches for this are available, in this traditional booters setting, please contact NAM for details. This year the Aeroboot will again be on our main, expanded, site, and open from 10.00 until 16.00, giving everybody an opportunity for some shopping. This will once again be a two-day event.
