THE NEWARK AIR MUSEUM COCKPIT-FEST WEEKEND

18/19th JUNE 2005

COCKPIT-FEST 2005

This is the annual gathering of members of the International Cockpit Club who each year travel to NAM with their cockpits and / or aircraft interior parts, to display them to the public, to whom these items are rarely seen. This event is sponsored by FLYPAST, the UK’s top selling aviation monthly. The cockpits are in various stages of restoration, from the newly acquired wreck, through ongoing projects, to fully restored cockpits. All of these types form the ethos of what Cockpit-Fest is about, the saving and conservation of our aviation heritage, it is not, nor ever will be a beauty parade of perfect cockpits. Part two of Cockpit-Fest is known as the "Interiors" and features anything that goes inside a aircraft, this can include flying clothing, survival equipment, flying helmets, instrument panels, control columns, gun turrets, ejector seats, etc. This became part of the event from day one but some collectors may still be unaware of this. Owners/Collectors of the above wishing to display at Cockpit-Fest 2005 should contact us with details.

The year 2005 sees Cockpit-Fest return to its traditional time slot of Fathers Day Weekend, and remains the best place to "bring Dad" for a special day out. With the opening, and filling, of the museums second display hall, the overall site offers many opportunities for yet another new display area to show off this years gathering.. It also allows a better separation between exhibits and sales than was achieved last year.

It is hoped that existing, and new, cockpitters will once again take the opportunity of attending this annual gathering. And that we will all be seeing an interesting and varied selection of cockpits during the sixth Cockpit-Fest.

The INTERNATIONAL COCKPIT CLUB (ICC) have announced their members intention of having a sub-theme for this years event. The subject chosen by the active membership is the Hunter. It is believed that if each of those members who own a Hunter cockpit were to bring them to Cockpit-Fest then most marks of the Hunter would be represented at this gathering. This is something being pursued by the ICC itself, and should provide an interesting line up.

Another aspect which will influence this years Cockpit-Fest will be a Canberra Tribute event, to be held at NAM on 21/22nd May, and is planned to feature a gathering of Canberra cockpits. These will be invited to display at both events, with space on site being made available to leave them at NAM between events

So if it all goes to plan we should see three themes to Cockpit-Fest VI

1/ The grand selection

2/ Hunter line up

3/ Canberra collection

AEROBOOT – Aviation & Avionics Sale

During this weekend we open a special area for an aviation and avionics sale, this tends to focus on the selling of aviation books, videos, photos, prints, uniforms and parts. Pitches for this are available, in this traditional booters setting, please contact NAM for details. This year the Aeroboot will again be on our main, expanded, site, and open from 10.00 until 16.00, giving everybody an opportunity for some shopping. This will once again be a two-day event.
