22 January 2005 - We have received invitations to attend two new cockpit meetings for 2005.

The first has come from Andy Saunders who organises the popular bi-annual aerojumbles at Shoreham Airport in West Sussex. Andy wishes to expand the normal Shoreham Aeromart to include a display of cockpits and will set aside a dedicated area of the site for their display. He has offered to pay £20 per cockpit towards the costs of attending (up to a maximum of ten cockpits for the event), plus two free entry tickets to the Aeromart. The date of this event is Saturday 19th March 2005. We already have a couple of confirmed attendees but more would be greatly appreciated. If you are interested in displaying a cockpit at Shoreham please contact us via the ICC Webmaster address on the e-mail page.

The second event is the Liverpool Aviation Fair & Cockpit Meet to be held at the former Speke airport on Sunday 3rd July 2005. Please click here for full details.

The involvement of ICC members in making these events a success would be highly appreciated, both by the event organisers and the Club as a whole.

8 June 2004 - Indications are that CockpitFest 2004 at Newark Air Museum on 12th/13th June will be a very special event.
However, on a sadder note please see the letter from Bill O'Sullivan of Newark Air Museum with news of the death of Robert Rudhall. Robert undoubtedly assisted in launching the CockpitFest concept and helped it gain the benchmark status for such events it enjoys today.
Read the letter here.

Due to the distance travelled by some of these exhibits, it is quite likely that some will start their journey home during the Sunday afternoon. To avoid disapointment be sure to plan an early visit. All the above exhibits are expected to attend to the best of our knowledge, but there may be reasons why some do not come. This is a provisional list of expected event attendees. - Bill O'Sullivan, Newark Air Museum

See the CockpitFest 2002 and 2003 photo review pages for pictures from previous events.

Note - there will be a major event (for tractors) taking place at the Newark Showground next door to Newark Air Museum at the same time as CockpitFest. Allowing extra time for getting into the site is therefore advised.

30 May 2004 - ICC member Dave Scott has submitted a superb article on sheet metal working methods which will be of interest to anyone needing to manufacture new components. See the articles page for more.

28 May 2004 - On 25th May 2004 a rare cockpit section from a Blackburn Beverley C.1 transport aircraft joined Newark Air Museum’s extensive aircraft collection. The cockpit, from XB261, comprises the flight deck and navigation compartment and has been acquired from the Duxford Aviation Society. The cockpit will be displayed in the Museum's new Aircraft Display Hangar in time for CockpitFest 2004.

23 April 2004 - The International Cockpit Club announce the intention to award a commemorative shield at CockpitFest in memory of Robert Rudhall.

The shield will reward the effort and dedication involved in the cockpit restoration process and will be awarded to the most improved restoration project from year to year.

Clearly progress must be demonstrated and this can be done by means of photographs and other supporting documentation. This prize is intended to reward the hard work involved in progressing a restoration project rather than the end result in isolation.

Hopefully this will encourage greater attendance from 'work in progress' cockpits which will demonstrate to visitors the restoration process and work required.

20 February 2004 - The ICC Forum now has two new categories (For Sale and Wanted) where members can post their own For Sale and Wanted adverts. The For Sale and Wanted pages on the main website will continue to operate as before and are able to display a small photograph along with the advert whereas the forum entries are not.

12 November 2003 - Please see the letter here from Newark Air Museum detailing the revised format of the CockpitFest weekend for 2004.

We have also received information sheets with additional details for intended participants of CockpitFest 2004.
There are seperate sheets for each of the two categories within the event,

  • click here for the interiors information sheet

17 September 2003 - Sadly, both the Cockpit Open Day to be held at Farnborough Air Sciences Trust on 11th October 2003 and the Cockpit Rally intended for Manchester International Airport have been cancelled.
A very disappointing lack of interest and support from ICC members and from certain other quarters has meant that neither event can realistically go ahead. This is a tremendous shame as both offered the chance to make aircraft and cockpit preservation accessible to a wide and varied audience and has been the result of a great deal of work by all concerned to organise.

3 August 2003 - Announcing a new cockpit event! Farnborough Air Sciences Trust have invited ICC members to display their cockpits at an Open Day on 11th October 2003. See here for further details.

16 June 2003 - For those who were unable to attend Cockpitfest 2003 at Newark Air Museum on 14th & 15th June, see the Cockpitfest 2003 Photo Review for a taste of what you missed.
Although visiting cockpit numbers were down compared to last year and a number of the promised participants were unable to attend, many more of the museum resident's cockpits were opened up for inspection. In addition, Vulcan XM594 had it's bomb bay doors and airbrakes exercised while the Auxilliary Power Unit was run up.
A number of interesting changes are planned for the 2004 event so watch this space!
